1. Aged Parent Visa Subclass 804

This is an ‘onshore’ visa application which generates a bridging-visa to stay-on in Australia.
The Aged Parent (Subclass 804) is a permanent visa that lets an aged parent of a settled Australian Citizen / Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to gain permanent residency in Australia.

With this visa

This is an ‘onshore’ visa which generates a Bridging-Visa to stay-on in Australia.
Successful applicants will be entitled to stay in Australia as a permanent resident, and if eligible, they may be able to apply for Australian Citizenship. They can sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.

General eligibility criteria
To be eligible applicants must
  • Have an eligible sponsor – this is usually an eligible child.
  • The Department of Home Affairs must approve a sponsor
  • Applicant must meet the balance-of-family test – at least 50% or more of the applicant’s children must be PR or citizens of Australia and usually settled in Australia
  • Applicant must be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia (65 plus)
  • Applicant must meet Australian health and character requirements.
 

2. Parent Visa (subclass 103)

The Parent 103 visa allows those parents to live in Australia permanently whose child is already settled in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
However, the visa requires the parents to have the sponsorship of child or another eligible sponsor in Australia.
If the child is younger than 18 years of age, parents can be sponsored by either:
The spouse of child, (who is 18 years of age or more and settled in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen)
A relative or guardian of the child (who is 18 years of age or more and settled in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen)
A relative or guardian of your child's spouse (who is 18 years of age or more and settled in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen) or
A community organization

Note: Currently it takes around 25 Years for the parent visa to be granted.

Eligibility Criteria

Being a parent visa holder, you and the dependent family members included in the visa application can:
  • Live, study and work in Australia for indefinite period
  • Apply for the Australian citizenship after fulfilling the eligibility requirements
  • Be a part of Australia’s scheme for health related care and expenses
  • Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
  • Leave and revisit Australia frequently for five year from the date visa is granted

Benefits Of The Visa

For Visa Applicants
You can only get this visa if:

Your child is either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen
You meet health and character requirements
You meet the balance-of- family-test
You have a sponsorship

For Sponsors
You can only sponsor someone on parent visa if you:

Aged 18 or more
Completed at least 2 years in Australia legitimately when the visa application is lodged

For community organisation sponsors, there must be either:

A proof that shows a relationship between you and the child of parent visa applicants
A written statement by the senior representative of the organisation agreeing to support the parents after their arrival in Australia

Health and Character Requirements

You and all the family members included in the visa application must have:
  • A proof of medical examinations undergone within 12 months of lodging a visa
  • A police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more in the past ten years.

Debts to the Australian Government

You must have no outstanding debts to the Australian government before the visa is granted.

 

3. AGED DEPENDENT RELATIVE VISA 114

Travel to and from Australia for 5 years

You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want for 5 years from the date we grant this visa until the travel validity expires.
If you want to travel after the initial 5-year travel validity:

  • you will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return (RRV) so that you can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
  • you might also want to consider Australian citizenship. If you become an Australian citizen, you don’t require a visa to enter Australia. How long you can stay

This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely.
For citizenship purposes, you become a permanent resident at the time:

  • you enter Australia on this visa; or
  • if you previously have been present in Australia and held a permanent visa immediately before last leaving Australia, when we grant this visa
Include family

You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply. You can also add them to your application at any time before we make a decision.
You will be required to include details of all your family members, whether they are migrating or not, in the application form.
For this visa, your family members are your dependent child and stepchild.
Family members who apply for the visa with you must meet our health and character requirements.
Family members who are not coming to Australia might also have to meet our health requirement.

Cost

The visa costs from AUD6,415. There is also an additional charge for each family member who applies with you.
You pay for this visa in 2 parts called instalments.
Pay the first instalment when you apply. Pay the second instalment when we ask you to.
You might also have to pay other costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics.

You and all applicants must be outside Australia when you apply and when we decide on your application.

Processing times

We don’t provide processing times for this visa. Applications for the visa are subject to capping and queueing.

Your application might take longer to process if:

  • you do not fill it in correctly
  • you do not include all the documents we need or we need more information from you
  • it takes us time to verify your information

We can’t process your application if you don’t pay the correct visa application charge. We will notify you if this is the case and if necessary return your application.

Family migration visas are in high demand. It might take many years for this visa to be granted.

We assess applications for this visa in 2 stages.

  • Check eligibility and either add the application to the queue or refuse it.
  • Continue assessing the application when a place becomes available and make a decision.

Don’t arrange to move to Australia until we grant the visa. We will let you know in writing if we grant you the visa.

Your obligations

You and your family members must meet all visa conditions and obey Australian laws.

Visa label

We will digitally link your visa to your passport. You will not get a label in your passport.

Eligibility for subclass 114 Aged Dependent Relative visa

Have a sponsor

You must be sponsored for this visa by an eligible relative or relative’s partner.
We must approve the sponsorship.

Be this age

You must be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia.

Be dependent

You must have been dependent on your relative in Australia for basic needs like food, shelter and clothing for at least 3 years before you apply for the visa.
You could be dependent on your relative due to disability that prevents you from working.

Have no partner

To be eligible for this visa you must have no partner.

Have assurance of support

You must be able to obtain an assurance of support.
An assurance of support assures us that you will not have to rely on government assistance after you enter Australia on this visa. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.
We will let you know when you need to provide the assurance of support.

Meet the health requirement

You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet our health requirement.
We might also ask that other family members also meet the requirement.

Meet the character requirement

You, and family members who apply for the visa with you, must meet our character requirement.
We might also ask that other non-migrating family members meet the requirement.

Have repaid debt to the Australian Government

If you or any family members owe the Australian Government money, you or they must have paid it back or have an approved arrangement in place to pay it back.

Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

You might not be eligible for this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia.

Best interests of the child
We will not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.
 

4. CONTRIBUTORY PARENT VISA 143

With this visa you can

  • stay in Australia indefinitely
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Australia's public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor your family members to come to Australia
  • travel to and enter Australia for 5 years
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Travel to and from Australia for 5 years

You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want for 5 years from the date we grant this visa. This is as long as the travel facility on this visa remains valid.

If you want to travel after the initial 5-year travel facility:

  • you will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return (RRV) so that you can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
  • you might also want to consider Australian citizenship. If you become an Australian citizen, you don't require a visa to enter Australia. If you hold a Contributory Parent (Temporary) (subclass 173) visa

You can apply for the subclass 143 visa as a two-step process by first applying for a Contributory Parent (Temporary) (subclass 173) visa. Applying for the subclass 173 visa and then the subclass 143 visa allows you to spread the cost of the visas over a number of years.

You have already met the balance of family test.

Apply for a Parent visa (subclass 143) as a retiree

If you apply for the subclass 103 visa as a retiree you don't have to:

  • meet the balance of family test, or
  • have a sponsor or an assurance of support

How long you can stay

This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely.

For citizenship purposes, your permanent residency starts on the day:

  • we grant the visa if you are in Australia
  • you enter Australia on this visa if you are outside Australia

Include family

You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply.

You are required to include details of all your family members, whether they are migrating or not.

Family members who apply for the visa must meet our health and character requirements. Family members who are not coming to Australia might also have to meet our health and character requirements.

If you apply for this visa as a retiree, you:

  • can include your partner when you apply provided they are also a retiree
  • can't include your children in your application

If you apply in Australia, any family members who apply with you must also be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply. If you apply outside Australia, any family members who apply for the visa with you must also be outside Australia when you apply.

If you are applying as a retiree you must be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply. You can be in or outside Australia when we make a decision on your application
